Description

The Curino is a 35cm diameter black fabric lampshade with a cylindrical drum profile and a 25cm height. The outer shell is constructed from a tightly-woven black fabric over a rigid wire frame, with a clear laminate lining bonded to the interior that reflects light back through the fabric while protecting the material from heat buildup. The shade fits standard E27 lamp holders and lamp bases with a duplex ring fitting.

Designed as a replacement shade or upgrade for table lamps and floor lamps, the Curino pairs with bases in polished brass, brushed nickel, ceramic, marble and turned wood. The 35cm diameter suits lamps with a base width of 15-20cm, providing visual balance without overwhelming side tables or console surfaces. The black fabric diffuses light evenly through the sides and allows a controlled wash of light upwards and downwards through the open top and bottom apertures.

The fabric is a medium-weight weave that holds its shape without sagging when fitted to the wire frame. The black tone absorbs ambient daylight, giving the shade a solid matte presence when the lamp is switched off, then transitions to a warm translucent glow when lit from inside. The clear laminate lining prevents the fabric from yellowing or scorching when paired with LED, halogen or incandescent bulbs up to 60W.

The Curino weighs 0.48kg and is light enough to fit onto most standard duplex fittings without needing adapter rings. The 25cm height provides coverage for bulbs up to 15cm in length, concealing the bulb and lamp holder from side view while still leaving clearance between the top of the bulb and the top rim of the shade.

The shade fits standard duplex ring fittings, which are the most common fitting on UK table and floor lamp bases. The duplex ring has two small metal loops at the top of the shade that clip onto the lamp holder.

What size lamp base does it suit?

The 35cm diameter pairs best with lamp bases that are 15-20cm wide at the widest point. Bases narrower than this can look undersized beneath the shade, while bases wider than 25cm can make the shade appear too small.

Can it be used with dimmer switches?

The shade itself is non-electric and has no electronic components. Dimmer compatibility depends entirely on the bulb and the lamp base wiring — if both support dimming, the shade will not interfere.

How is the fabric cleaned?

Use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner set to low suction, or a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. For marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but do not soak the fabric or use sprays or chemical cleaners, as these can stain or weaken the material.
