Description

The Cross is a wall light built from two stacked bars that cross gently along their length, so each sits slightly off the line of the other. Light glows out between the bars and washes the wall above and below, giving soft, layered light rather than a single bright spot. It is 30cm wide and 11.5cm tall, a neat size for a wall beside a bed or a sofa. It comes in three finishes: White, Brushed Brass and Gold Leaf. The light source is an integrated LED of 20W giving 2340lm at 3000K, a warm white, so there is no bulb to buy or change.

We see the Cross working in a living room, a bedroom or a dining room. In a living room, a pair either side of a sofa or a fireplace gives a warm wash of light for the evening without the ceiling light on. In a bedroom it suits the wall beside the bed or above a chest of drawers, and in a dining room it adds a low, warm glow around the table. In White it sits quietly on a pale wall, while Brushed Brass and Gold Leaf bring warmth against darker paint. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

It runs on 230V mains and is wired in by an electrician. It comes in two versions: a non-dimmable version, and a DALI or push dimmable version that dims through a DALI control system or a push switch. If you like to set the level of light, the dimmable version is the one to choose. The LED has a CRI of 80, good colour rendering for everyday rooms, so painted walls and fabrics look as they should. Because the LED is built in, there are no bulbs to replace, so once it is wired in there is nothing more to buy or fit. Our photographs show the white version.
