Description

Criss Cross is a wall mirror 171cm high by 76cm wide, assembled from ten identical rectangular mirrors laid alternately upright and across, each one finished with a 5mm bevel. The panels sit at different depths and stand off the wall by different amounts, so the joins throw shadows and the surface is not flat. Between them are four square openings where the wall itself shows through. The panels are fixed to a matt black sprayed support. The design is by Annemie Vanzieleghem.

The openings mean the wall colour behind it becomes part of the piece, so a dark wall reads very differently from a pale one and it is worth deciding the position with that in mind. It hangs in all four directions, and because the composition is a grid rather than a picture, turning it is a real choice rather than a correction. More than one can be hung together, above or beside each other, to extend the pattern. At 13kg and 4cm deep it is a one person lift, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms.

The panels are mirrored glass with 5mm bevels on a synthetic support sprayed matt black. Clean each panel with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth, working within the panel rather than across the joins, and dust the openings out with a dry brush. Each panel measures 24.6cm by 39.5cm, so the grid reads at a consistent scale however it is turned. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
