Description

The Cormarne is a wooden pendant light with an onion-shaped shade made from curved slats in a warm maple colour. It hangs on a slim cord from a round ceiling canopy finished in satin nickel. The shade is 38cm across and the light is 130cm tall overall, so it gives a dining table or a living room ceiling a generous focal point without feeling heavy. Inside sits a single E27 lampholder, also in satin nickel, which takes a bulb of up to 60W. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, well away from bathrooms and steam.

We think it looks best hanging over a dining table, where the open slats let the bulb glow through the curved wood and draw the eye to the centre of the room. It works just as well above a living room seating area, or in a bedroom with a high enough ceiling to give it room to hang. The maple tone sits happily alongside oak and walnut furniture, rattan, linen and soft neutral walls, so it suits anyone who wants natural texture rather than a hard metal shade. Because the slats are open rather than solid, you can still see the bulb itself, which makes a clear filament bulb a lovely choice.

The canopy and lampholder are steel in a satin nickel finish. The shade is wood, and its slats are held in shape by a slim ring around the lower edge. There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in mains light it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Packed, it weighs 1.24KG.
