Description
This ceramic biscuit barrel is shaped like a little gingerbread house, with the words 'Cookies For Santa' piped in white lettering down one side. The front has a door framed by two red and white candy canes, a pair of four-pane windows and white scrolls running along the walls like icing, while a peppermint swirl sits in the gable above the door. The roof and base are snowy white, and two cheerful gingerbread men complete the scene: one perched on the roof and another peeping round the front corner. The walls are a warm orange gingerbread shade under a glossy glaze, and the barrel stands 26cm tall, 16cm wide and 16cm deep.
It belongs on the kitchen worktop through December, where it keeps biscuits close to hand. On Christmas Eve it comes into its own: fill it with a few biscuits for Santa and set it by the fireplace or on the hall table, ready for his visit. The printed words make it a natural part of the night before Christmas, and it is the sort of piece that comes out year after year in the run-up to the big day. At 16cm across, it takes up little room on a busy worktop, a dresser shelf or a festive sideboard, and its height gives it presence among the other Christmas decorations. We think it makes a warm Christmas gift too.
The barrel is made from ceramic with a gloss finish, and the roof lifts away as the lid, with the gingerbread man on top giving you something to hold. Because it is ceramic, lift it with both hands and set it down gently on a firm, level surface. For care, wipe it inside and out with a soft damp cloth and dry it well before refilling. For a gift, fill it with homemade gingerbread biscuits wrapped in baking paper and tie a ribbon round the roof.
