Description
Connect II L is a wall mirror 150cm high by 101cm wide, printed with a black block and a set of brushed marks arranged differently from the first composition in the pair. The glass is partly transparent as well as mirrored, so the black reads as solid, the mirrored areas reflect, and the wall shows through between them. The marks are printed on the sheet that carries the silvering, so they sit inside the reflection. The design is by Louise Mertens.
The two compositions are made to hang together as much as separately, and side by side the marks read as one gesture running across both. It suits a hallway, a living room or a bathroom, where it is rated to go. It hangs in four directions. At 23kg it is a two person lift onto fixings that reach something solid, and at 3.5cm deep it sits close to the wall. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble.
The mirror is partially transparent mirrored and printed glass, frameless. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, working across the whole sheet rather than stopping at the print, because the clear areas show marks that a mirror would hide. Because the wall shows through the clear areas, the wall colour behind becomes part of the piece rather than a backdrop to it, which is worth settling before the fixings go in. The first composition is made in the same size, and the pair is drawn to hang together. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
How is this different from Connect I?
The same technique and size with the marks arranged differently. The two are drawn to hang together as a pair.
Can you see through it?
In places. The glass is partly transparent as well as mirrored, so the wall shows through.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem.
Which way up does it hang?
Any of four, and each rotation moves the black block to a different edge.
How heavy is it?
23kg, so a two person lift onto fixings that reach something solid.
