Description

Colonnetta stands as a column of natural Spanish alabaster rather than a metal stem carrying a shade. Three cylindrical sections of stone stack one above the other, separated by narrow brushed brass collars, on a round brushed brass base disc. Above them sits a wide flat drum of the same alabaster, 450mm across, and the lamp stands 1500mm tall overall. The proportion is deliberately architectural: a shaft, three drums and a capital.

Three E14 lamps sit inside the drum, which is open at the top and the bottom, so light leaves upward onto the ceiling and downward past the column as well as glowing through the stone. The column is lit too, so the whole height of the lamp is doing something rather than just holding the shade up. Bulbs are supplied separately, which lets you set the output and the colour temperature to suit the room.

The collars and base are solid copper finished in brushed brass, and every section of the column and the drum is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining differs from section to section and no two lamps are alike. At 1500mm it reads beside a sofa or an armchair as a piece of furniture in its own right rather than as a light on a stand. Rated IP20 for interior use. Because the column is stone rather than a metal tube the lamp carries its weight low, which is why the brass base disc beneath it can stay as shallow as it does.
