Description

A glass pendant light, 17cm wide, in antique silver. At 17cm wide it is about the width of a laptop.

A cool metal finish reflects white rather than yellow, which sharpens a room instead of warming it. Beside a window it disappears; against a dark wall it draws a bright outline. Iron is the traditional choice for a reason: it takes heat, weight and time without complaint. It will mark if it is left wet, so indoors or under cover is where it belongs. It comes with its shade, so there is no second purchase to make it usable.

E27 lampholder, 1 of them up to 10-12W LED, and no bulb in the box. Because it is E27, bulbs are stocked everywhere and you are never tied to one supplier. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. The cable is black. It hangs from 45cm, so it clears a table without cutting the sightline. A Candle shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

A shade does two jobs at once and they pull against each other: it hides the bulb from your eye, and it decides how much light escapes sideways rather than up and down. A dense fabric does the first well and the second hardly at all. Dust is the whole of the maintenance and it matters more than it sounds: an even film of dust on a shade dims a room by more than most people would guess, and a soft brush restores it in a minute.
