Description
This little Christmas front door plaque recreates a grand doorway in miniature. A red door sits at its centre, dressed with a green wreath tied with a gold bow and finished with a gold doorknob and a small black letterbox set between the panels. Around it, a white doorway with fluted detail and square columns rises to a dark pitched roof, and a garland of holly with bright red berries runs along the top. The whole piece stands on a grey step. It is made from resin, also known as polystone, and measures 11cm tall, 7.5cm wide and 2.4cm deep.
At 11cm tall, it is made for small spaces: the mantelpiece, a windowsill, a bookshelf or the hall table where the Christmas cards gather. Because it is only 2.4cm deep, it fits on a narrow ledge where a bulkier ornament would crowd things. It looks at home beside a row of little houses in a Christmas village scene, at the foot of the tree among the presents, or tucked into a run of greenery along the sideboard. As a Christmas gift it is easy to wrap, small enough to slip into a stocking and a cheerful choice for anyone who loves a traditional, old-fashioned Christmas.
The details are moulded into the resin and picked out in colour, from the raised panels of the door to each leaf of the holly. The back is plain white, with the roof edge and grey step carried round, and the flat base lets the plaque stand upright on its own. To care for it, dust with a soft dry cloth, or wipe gently with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. When the season is over, wrap it in tissue and pack it away with your decorations until the next Christmas. We like it at the front of a shelf, where the red door catches the eye.
