Description

The Chelsea Harbor is a single-light outdoor chain pendant finished in Storm Cloud grey with black speckle detailing across hand-formed aluminium. The 146mm-wide lantern-style body houses a mouth-blown seedy glass cylinder that surrounds a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately), and the light hangs on an adjustable chain from a ceiling canopy finished to match.

Designed for covered porches, verandas, and patio overhangs where the IP23 rating provides protection from rain when mounted under a roof overhang, the pendant draws its form from 1940s-1950s dockside work lights. The chain allows height adjustment between 590mm and 2114mm during installation, letting the pendant sit 700-1200mm above a table surface or lower in taller porch ceilings. The hand-blown seedy glass diffuses the light from the bulb while retaining enough clarity to show the filament of decorative LED or vintage-style bulbs.

The Storm Cloud finish is a mid-grey powder coat with irregular black speckles applied by hand, giving each pendant slight tonal variation. The aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and exposed locations, and the finish weathers to develop a deeper patina over time rather than chipping or flaking. At 520mm body height and 146mm diameter, the pendant suits porches, entrance canopies and garden room doorways without overwhelming narrow walkways.

Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

No. The IP23 rating protects against rain dripping at angles up to 60° from vertical, which means it needs a roof overhang or porch canopy above it. It is not rated for fully exposed positions where rain can hit it horizontally or from below.

What bulb should I use?

The pendant takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users pair it with a warm-white LED filament bulb at 6-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the vintage maritime aesthetic. Clear glass filament bulbs show well through the seedy glass.

Is the chain length adjustable after installation?

The chain can be shortened during installation by removing links, allowing drops between 590mm and 2114mm. Once installed and wired, the chain cannot be adjusted without disconnecting the power and re-wiring.

How is the Storm Cloud finish maintained?

Wipe the aluminium body with a damp cloth to remove dust and coastal salt deposits. The black speckle finish is applied by hand and may develop a deeper patina over time in coastal locations, which is a characteristic of the material rather than a defect.
