Description

The Chapda is a slim floor lamp built to put light on one thing. A low round disc stands on the floor, a plain column rises from it with a sliding collar and thumbscrew partway up, and at the top a long arm angles forward on a joint to a small brass bell shade that pivots on a second joint. The brass is antiqued and even in tone, and the flex is rust coloured braid with a switch worked by foot.

Everything about the shape is reach: the arm carries the shade 51cm forward of the column, which is far enough to clear the arm of a chair and sit over a lap or a book. The shade is small and solid, so the light goes down in a defined pool rather than across the room, and the collar on the column sets the height before the arm sets the angle. It stands 156.5cm at full extension on a base only 22.5cm across, so it takes almost no floor. It takes one E27 bulb up to 25W, the flex runs 3.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The frame is iron and aluminium finished in antiqued brass, and the joints are set by hand at the thumbscrews rather than held by friction. The brass shade is included, which is unusual among the floor lamps here, so this one arrives ready to use. Bulbs are not included.
