Description

The CEL is a compact round recessed downlight built around a single MR11 lamp on a Gx4 base. It runs on low voltage, taking 12V AC or 12V DC, and accepts a lamp up to 35W, so the brightness and beam are set by the MR11 you fit rather than by an integrated module. In US terms this is a recessed can light at miniature scale, dropping into a small ceiling cut-out to sit flush. The fitting measures just Ø64mm with a 24mm body depth, which keeps it discreet once installed and suited to shallow voids.

The CEL works well as part of a multi-fitting layout across indoor rooms such as kitchens, hallways and living spaces, where several small downlights spread light evenly rather than relying on one source. Because output depends on the chosen MR11 lamp, plan coverage around the lamp's stated lumens and beam angle, grouping fittings closer together for a fuller wash or wider apart for accent pools. The shallow 24mm depth helps where ceiling space above the plasterboard is limited. What size cut-out does this downlight need?

The CEL has an overall diameter of Ø64mm, so the ceiling needs a slightly smaller round cut-out for the body to drop through and the trim to sit flush. Always confirm the exact aperture against the fitting before cutting, as the cut-out is smaller than the overall trim diameter. Its body depth is only 24mm, which suits shallow ceiling voids.

Does it need a transformer?

Yes. The CEL is a low-voltage fitting running on 12V AC or 12V DC, so it needs a suitable transformer or low-voltage driver rated for the lamp load. Size the supply to the MR11 wattage you choose, up to a maximum of 35W per fitting.

Is the MR11 lamp included, and can I choose the colour temperature?
