Description

An opal glass shade, shaped much like a wine glass, hangs from a slim suspension finished in satin nickel with black, and takes a single E27 lamp. The shade is 25cm across, which keeps it in neat single pendant territory rather than anything showy, and the opal glass spreads light evenly instead of throwing it all one way. The drop adjusts, so it can hang well clear of a doorway or come down closer over a worktop.

We reach for this where one hanging light is wanted without much ceremony: above a kitchen island, in a row over a breakfast bar, beside a bed, or in a small hall or on a landing. It takes up to 20W at the E27 socket, so an LED is the sensible choice, and either a rounded globe lamp or a slim tubular one sits well behind the opal glass. It will dim, given a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer, and the dimmer is bought separately.

The shade is glass, the suspension and ceiling plate metal, and both the satin nickel and the black have a soft sheen rather than a mirror polish, which hides handling better. It carries a two year warranty. Dust the glass with a soft cloth as you would any other ornament; for fingerprints, switch the light off, wait until the shade is properly cool, then use a cloth barely damp with warm water and dry it off before switching back on. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashing. The same wine glass shape runs through the range as a flush fitting, in finishes from antique brass and antique copper to polished chrome and matt white, so there is an option where a drop would get in the way. Lamps are not included.
