Cavo Braided Copper Cable 3 Core 0.75mm - Jute Brown

A woven braid in jute brown covers the three core flex here, giving a soft textile surface that sits far more comfortably in a room than plain PVC. The conductors are 0.75mm, the usual size for domestic lighting, and the third core means it can be used with metal fittings as well as fully insulated ones. The braid is close and even, so the cable coils rather than kinking, and the colour reads as a warm mid brown with a hint of natural fibre. Longer orders arrive in a continuous length rather than cut pieces.

It is the flex to use where the cable is part of the look: a pendant dropped from a ceiling rose, a rewired brass table lamp, a run of hanging shades over an island. The earthy brown works particularly well against brass, antique brass, copper and bare timber, and it is quieter in a period room than a stark white or black lead. We keep it on the shelf for customers restoring older fittings, where a modern white flex would undo the work. It is intended for dry indoor rooms, so hallways, bedrooms and kitchens rather than porches, garden lights or bathroom zones.

Underneath the braid the cores are individually insulated, and the cable is VDE approved. Keeping it clean is a matter of a dry cloth drawn along the braid now and then, since textile sleeving shows dust sooner than smooth PVC; avoid solvents, which will dull the weave. It carries a one year warranty. The braided flex also comes in blue, purple, lime green, red, black and white in a two core version, and we stock plain black PVC and clear flat cable alongside it if you would rather the wiring disappeared. Fittings and lampholders are sold separately.

How is the cable sold?

It is priced and supplied per metre. Order the quantity you need and it will be sent as one continuous 1000mm-per-unit run rather than separate metre pieces.

How thick is the finished cable?

The braided cable measures 6mm across, which suits most standard cord grips and lampholder entries.

Why choose three core rather than two?

The third conductor is the earth, so this is the one to pick when the fitting has exposed metal parts. Two core braided flex is for fully insulated fittings only.

Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor use only, so keep it away from damp, splashing and exposed positions.

Will the braid fray where the cable is cut?

Textile braid can loosen at a fresh cut, so trim cleanly and dress the end promptly. A turn of tape around the braid before cutting keeps the weave tight.

How should the braid be cleaned?

Wipe along the braid with a dry cloth. Do not use water, sprays or solvents, as they mark the woven surface.
