Cavo Braided Copper Cable 3 Core 0.75mm - Ivory

This is a fabric braided flex in a soft ivory, made up as three core cable with a conductor size of 0.75mm. The braid is woven over the insulated cores, giving a lightly textured surface that catches the light rather than reflecting it, and the pale neutral shade sits quietly against most walls and ceilings. It is VDE approved and supplied by the metre, with whatever quantity you order sent as a single continuous run rather than cut pieces.

Being three core, it suits fittings that need an earth, so it is the one we hand over for rewiring metal pendants, brass table lamps and standard lamps where the old flex has gone brittle or grubby. Interior fitters and lamp makers use it for hanging drops and for replacing tired cord on second hand pieces, and it is equally at home on a simple bulb holder run down from a ceiling point. We like ivory in period rooms, plastered hallways and anywhere a black flex would read as a hard line across the wall.

The woven covering wears better than bare PVC and resists the scuffing that flex picks up where it passes over a shade or a lamp base. Keep it clean by running a dry cloth along the braid now and then to lift dust from the weave, and leave solvents and damp cloths well alone, as they can mark the fibres. It is intended for dry interiors on an ordinary household circuit, not for garden or bathroom work. It carries a one year warranty. How much cable do I get per unit?

Each unit is one metre. Order the total number of metres you need and it will be supplied as one continuous length rather than several separate pieces.

How thick is the finished cable?

The braided cable measures approximately 6mm in diameter, so it passes comfortably through most standard lamp holders, cord grips and ceiling roses.

Why choose three core rather than two core?

Three core carries a live, neutral and earth, which is what you need for metal fittings and any lamp that requires an earth connection. Two core suits double insulated fittings only.

Will the braid fray when it is cut?

Woven coverings can loosen at a cut end, so it helps to tape the point before cutting and to keep the braid tidy under the cord grip once the ends are made off.

Is it suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

No. It is rated IP20 and intended for dry indoor rooms. Choose a cable specified for damp or exterior conditions for those situations.

Can I use it with LED lamps?

Yes. At 0.75mm it is happily rated for LED, halogen and incandescent lamps within normal domestic lighting loads.
