Description

The Castelnuovo is an outdoor wall light that sends light both upwards and downwards from a slim, rectangular body. The body is aluminium in a textured black finish, ribbed from top to bottom, and each end is capped by a clear plastic diffuser with a fine fluted pattern, so the light leaves the fitting at the top and the bottom at once. It measures 24cm high, 11.2cm wide and 8cm in length, and weighs 0.6KG. It takes GU10 bulbs, and its IP65 rating means it is sealed against dust and protected from jets of water, so it can live on an outside house wall in every season.

Because it lights the wall above and below the fitting, we think it works well beside a front door, along a run of outdoor steps, on a garden wall or either side of a garage, where you want light on the ground and a little shape on the brickwork after dark. The black and clear finish sits comfortably against white render, painted brick or timber cladding, and the ribbed body gives a plain wall some texture by day as well as by night. Fitted in pairs or spaced along a path or terrace, they mark the way evenly and make the outside of your home feel welcoming.

The aluminium body matters on a wall that faces the weather, because aluminium is light and does not rust, while the clear diffusers are plastic rather than glass. There is no switch on the light itself: it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and is controlled from your wall switch. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. GU10 bulbs are not included, so choose the bulbs you prefer and have them ready for the day the light is fitted.
