Description
This light-up decoration is a gingerbread house in candy cane colours, made of plastic and finished in a soft biscuit brown with thick white icing. Pale blue lines are piped down the walls, two arched windows and the panes above the door are cut right through, and the little red door is flanked by a pair of red and white swirl lollipops. A peppermint sweet sits over the doorway, and a snowy base dotted with coloured sprinkles runs round the foot. Above the eaves, a frill of piped icing carries two gingerbread men and a snowflake biscuit, a red and white striped band circles the upper tier, white lattice covers the top and a second peppermint crowns it all. A fine glitter sparkles across the icing and walls. It stands 21.2cm tall, 11.7cm wide and 13.2cm deep.
We see it as a centrepiece for Christmas: at 21.2cm tall it sits happily on a mantelpiece, a sideboard, a bookshelf, a deep windowsill or a hall table indoors. Because it lights up, it adds a little glow to a corner once the evenings draw in, alongside its cheerful colour by day. It is a decoration for dry rooms indoors, away from anywhere damp. The candy cane colours and iced detail make it a lovely Christmas gift, and it suits a festive table or a shelf of seasonal decorations just as well.
The house is made of plastic and stands on its own wide, snowy base, so it needs no hook or stand. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water, and store it somewhere dry once the decorations come down. For a gingerbread scene, set it on a bed of faux snow or among sprigs of greenery and a few pine cones, where the red door and peppermint sweets stand out against the white.
