Description

The Calmeilles is a wall light in a brass finish, built in stepped tiers of slim rectangular frames, each one holding a clear, faceted drop of brilliant glass. The frames follow a gentle curve, so the piece reads as a shallow column of glass and metal rather than a flat panel. It measures 21.5cm wide, 33cm tall and 13cm deep from the wall, a size that sits comfortably beside a bed or a mirror. It takes three E14 bulbs of up to 25W each, and the bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour of light yourself. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs indoors, in dry rooms.

Indoors and dry is a wide brief, and a hallway, a landing, a dining room or a bedroom all suit it. Fitted either side of a bed or a fireplace, a matching set brings a balanced glow to the wall, and the faceted glass catches the light whenever the bulbs are lit. That sparkle is the real reason we would choose a fitting like this: it gives a room a touch of old-style luxury at a modest size, without a chandelier hanging overhead. There is no switch on the light itself, so it is controlled from a wall switch, with nothing on the fitting to spoil the clean lines of the frames.

The body is steel in a brass finish, and each glass drop hangs from a small loop at the top of its own frame, so every piece is held neatly within the metalwork. It runs at 220 to 240V, 50/60Hz, and weighs 2.538KG packed. As a mains light wired into the wall, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. The bulbs are not included, so pick up three E14 bulbs of 25W or less before fitting day, and let them cool before dusting the glass.

Frequently Asked

Can this wall light go in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means it is made for dry indoor rooms only, so we would keep it away from bathrooms and outdoor walls.

Which bulbs does it take?

It takes three E14 bulbs of up to 25W each. The bulbs are not included, so you can pick the colour of light you prefer.

How big is the Calmeilles?

It is 21.5cm wide, 33cm tall and stands 13cm out from the wall, so it suits a hallway or a spot beside the bed without crowding the space.

What materials are the frame and drops?

The body is steel in a brass finish, and the clear rectangular drops are brilliant glass, each held within its own slim frame.

Does it have its own switch?

No, there is no switch on the light itself. It is controlled from a wall switch, so nothing on the fitting spoils the look of the brass frames.
