Description

Calligra is a narrow upright wall mirror, 168cm high by only 53cm wide, in a black metal frame that curves rather than running straight. The frame was developed from a folded sheet of paper: bending the sides produced a three dimensional profile, and that curve is what the metal frame reproduces, so the edge of the mirror turns away from the wall as it rises. The reference is to calligraphy and the movement of a pen stroke. The design is by Design Studio Niruk.

The proportions make this a piece for a narrow wall, a hallway, the strip beside a door, or a bathroom where a wide mirror simply will not fit. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem. It hangs in two directions. At 53cm wide it gives a head and shoulders reflection rather than a full length one, which is worth knowing if a dressing mirror is what is wanted. The glass itself is oval, and the frame encloses that curve rather than sitting flat against it, so the mirror reads as a formed object rather than a flat pane and the black metal keeps the profile reading as a single line. At 168cm it stands close to full height, which is what makes the narrow width work.

The frame is black metal and the mirror weighs 12KG, so it is a manageable lift, though at 8cm deep it stands further off the wall than most mirrors this size. Two screws with washers and wall plugs are supplied and nothing needs assembling. Wipe the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and dust the frame dry. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
