Description
Calco White Square is an irregular wall mirror, 108cm wide by 116cm high, with two sculpted white forms set against its sides. The glass itself is cut to an asymmetric organic outline by precision machinery, and the side forms are moulded and then finished by hand, so the brush work is visible in the surface at close range. The two forms sit opposite one another and read as though they are holding the glass in place. Calco is Italian for mould, which is the process the frame is made by. The design is by Esther Everaert.
This is a decorative piece first and a mirror second, and it suits a hallway, a living room wall or a bedroom where there is room to see the whole outline. It hangs in four directions, so the sculpted forms can sit left and right, top and bottom, or on either diagonal, and the piece changes character noticeably between them. It is not rated for bathroom use.
The frame is moulded and hand finished in white, and at 11.5KG it is light enough for one person to hold while a second fixes it. It is 7cm deep, so it stands further off the wall than a plain pane. Two screws with washers and wall plugs are supplied and there is nothing to assemble. Dust the white forms with a dry soft brush and keep cleaner off them, as the finish is hand applied; clean the glass with cleaner on the cloth. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
