Description
Calco Gold Square is a sculpted wall mirror, 116cm high by 108cm wide, built as a moulded frame with two organic gold forms held at the left and right edges. The gold is metal leaf laid by hand over the moulding, so it carries the overlapping squares and the torn edges of leaf rather than the even surface of paint. Calco means cast, and the frame is exactly that. The design is by Esther Everaert.
It suits a living room, a bedroom or a hallway with the wall to give it, and at 108cm across it is closer to a piece of wall sculpture than to a mirror that happens to be framed. It hangs in four directions, so the two gold forms can sit left and right, top and bottom, or on a diagonal. It is not rated for bathroom use. At 11.5kg it is a one person lift, but it stands 7cm off the wall, and that depth is the frame rather than the glass, so allow for it beside a door. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied.
The mirror is mirrored glass in a moulded frame finished with hand applied gold metal leaf. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and keep it off the leaf entirely, dusting the gold dry instead, because applied leaf is thin and solvent marks it. Because the leaf is laid over a moulded form rather than a flat one, the gold changes as you move past it: bright on the outer curve, dark in the hollow. A hall size and a round size are made in the same finish. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
What are the gold shapes?
Moulded organic forms at the left and right edges, finished in hand applied gold metal leaf.
Is the gold paint?
No. It is metal leaf laid by hand, which is why the overlapping squares and torn edges are visible.
How far does it stand off the wall?
7cm, and that depth is the moulded frame rather than the glass.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. This mirror is not rated for bathroom use.
What other sizes are made?
A tall hall size and a round size in the same gold leaf finish.
