Description

Calco Gold Hall is a sculpted wall mirror, 166cm high by 64cm wide, the same moulded form as the square size drawn tall, with the two organic gold forms set at the top right and the bottom left. The gold is metal leaf laid by hand, so the surface carries the overlapping squares and torn edges of leaf rather than the flatness of paint. The design is by Esther Everaert.

The proportion is made for a narrow wall: a hallway, a landing, the return beside a doorway. It hangs in four directions, and because the two gold forms sit on a diagonal rather than opposite each other, each rotation genuinely rearranges the piece. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms. At 11kg it is a one person lift, and it stands 7cm off the wall, that depth being the moulded frame rather than the glass. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble.

The mirror is mirrored glass in a moulded frame finished with hand applied gold metal leaf. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and keep it away from the leaf, dusting the gold dry instead. In a corridor the depth works in its favour: the frame catches raking light along the wall and the gold lifts, where a flat mirror would only reflect the opposite side. A square size and a round size are made in the same finish. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
