Description

Bubbles is a wall mirror 104cm across, ringed by a band of overlapping circles that were silkscreen printed onto the glass and then silvered, so each bubble reflects rather than simply being drawn. The source was soap film photographed through a macro lens, which is why the circles vary in size and sit at different depths against one another. The outer edge is cut to follow the bubbles rather than closing them off in a circle, so the outline is irregular. The design is by Esther Everaert.

It hangs on a rotating suspension, so the denser cluster of bubbles can be turned to whichever side suits the wall. That matters here because the band is not evenly weighted: turned one way the large bubbles gather low, turned another they sit across the top. It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a living room, and it is rated bathroom proof, so a bathroom is within its range as well. At 8kg and 2.5cm deep it is light and sits close to the wall, and two screws with washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble. Give it a plain wall rather than a patterned one: the bubble band is busy enough on its own and reads best against a flat colour that lets the silvering carry the detail.

The mirror is printed and mirrored glass on a rotating suspension. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and work with the curve of the bubbles rather than straight across the band, since the printed edges will hold lint from a dry cloth dragged over them. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
