Brisbin 1 Light Pendant - Burnished Brass

The Brisbin is a 457mm-diameter pendant light built from three stacked concentric metal shades in burnished brass, each painted white on the interior to diffuse and reflect light as it passes through the layers. A single E27 bulb sits inside the lowest shade, casting light upwards and downwards through the tiered structure. The fixture hangs on a brass rod from a matching circular canopy.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and entrance halls with ceiling heights of 2.4m or higher, the Brisbin works as both a decorative centrepiece and a functional task light. The adjustable drop ranges from 397mm to 1617mm on installation, allowing the pendant to be set 700-800mm above a dining table or 900-1000mm above a kitchen island depending on ceiling height and the proportions of the space below.

The burnished brass finish shows a low-lustre warm gold tone with subtle surface texture, sitting between the high shine of polished brass and the flatness of satin brass. The layered shade structure borrows from mid-century Scandinavian lighting design — each tier steps down in diameter to create a rhythm of concentric circles when viewed from below. The white interior paint bounces light back through each layer, preventing harsh direct glare from the bulb and creating a graduated ambient wash.

The metal shades are spun steel rather than stamped aluminium, giving each tier a solid edge profile and keeping the overall weight balanced on the suspension rod. The 457mm diameter suits rooms with 3-4m floor-to-ceiling spans and table or island widths of 1.2-1.8m — smaller spaces may find the pendant too dominant, while larger open-plan areas may need multiple Brisbins spaced 1.5-2m apart.

What bulb does it take?

The Brisbin takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W, sold separately. Most users pair it with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient dining or kitchen island lighting. The white-painted interiors diffuse the light, so a clear filament bulb works well if you want visible character when the pendant is off.

How is the drop adjusted?

The pendant rod is adjustable on installation between 397mm and 1617mm. Once set, the drop is fixed unless the fitting is dismantled and re-installed. For a dining table, typical hang height is 700-800mm above the surface; for a kitchen island, 900-1000mm works for most users.

What ceiling height is needed?

With the minimum drop of 397mm plus the 206mm fitting height, the Brisbin needs at least 2.2m ceiling height to avoid head clearance issues when set above a table. For comfortable overhead clearance in circulation areas, 2.4m or higher is recommended.

Can the brass be cleaned?

Burnished brass develops a natural patina over time. To maintain the original finish, wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or light marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid brass polishes or chemical cleaners that may strip the burnished surface texture.
