Description

Brisalda sets six faceted stones of natural Spanish alabaster in a single vertical line, each carved to a soft hexagonal profile that catches the light across every face. The fitting stands 830mm tall and 80mm wide, and projects 120mm from the wall. It is held by two brushed brass backplates rather than one, so the column is anchored at the top and again at the bottom, with slim brass rods and turned brass collars linking the stones between those two fixing points.

An integrated LED runs to 18W at 3000K, a warm white close to the colour of a filament lamp, and the stone diffuses it rather than letting it glare. Each of the six stones is lit from within, so the fitting reads as a line of separate glowing points rather than one continuous strip. It is shown here on a panelled study wall beside a bookcase, where the height of the column answers the height of the panelling. At 830mm it is the tallest of the three wall lights in the range and wants a full stretch of wall to itself.

The metalwork is solid copper in a brushed brass finish, a warm tone that holds its own against grey panelling and stays quiet against pale walls. Every stone is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining differs from piece to piece and no two fittings are alike; the six stones on a single fitting will not match each other exactly either. The fitting is rated IP20 for interior use. Brisalda also runs as a three and a five light wall light, and as a pendant in seven, eight, nine and ten stone drops, so a whole room can be lit from one range.

What is the alabaster and does every fitting look the same?

Each stone is natural Spanish alabaster, cut and carved rather than moulded. The veining, translucency and warmth run differently through every block, so no two Brisalda fittings are identical and the six stones on a single fitting will not match each other exactly. That variation is the material, not a fault.

Can I replace the LED?

No. The LED is integrated rather than a separate lamp, so there is no bulb to change and none is supplied. It is rated for a long service life.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which covers dry interior locations only, so it should not be installed in a bathroom zone or anywhere it may meet moisture.

How is it fixed to the wall?

There are two brushed brass backplates, one at the top of the column and one at the bottom, so the fitting is anchored at both ends rather than cantilevered from a single point. Both need a fixing, and the supply comes in behind the upper plate.

How much wall does it need?

It stands 830mm tall, 80mm wide and 120mm deep. That height suits a full wall panel or a stretch beside a bookcase; on a short return wall the five or three light version sits more comfortably.
