Description

The Briale is an LED outdoor wall light built around a single oval disc that stands clear of a slim round body and throws a soft halo of light back onto the wall behind it. The body is aluminium in a textured black, and the finish is black and white, with a pale lens set into the body behind the disc. It measures 20cm in height, 19cm in length and 6cm in width, and weighs 0.41KG. The light source is an integrated LED giving 800 lumens. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall.

Because the light spills out around the edge of the disc, the wall itself glows, which suits a front door, a porch, a patio or the wall beside a flight of garden steps. Two fitted at different heights make a striking pair after dark, with each halo picking out the texture of a rendered wall. The black disc also gives a clean, graphic shape on the wall during the day, so it suits a modern house front as much as a cottage porch.

There are three colour temperatures, 3000K, 4000K and 6500K, chosen at the light itself: a warm white for a welcoming entrance, a neutral white, or a cool daylight white for finding keys by the door. The light has no switch of its own and is switched at the wall, and it carries energy class C. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Aluminium does not rust, a real advantage on an outside wall. Settle on your colour temperature while the light is being fitted, since the choice is made at the light rather than at the wall switch.
