Description

This is the round Braided Hemp rug, 180cm across and 2cm deep. The hemp is spun into a rope and braided, and the braid is then coiled from the centre outward in rings that stay visible across the whole face, so the rug reads as a spiral rather than as a flat weave. The colour is the natural gold of the fibre, shifting a little from ring to ring where one length of braid meets the next.

A 180cm circle sits under a coffee table with room left for the front feet of the seating around it, a sofa along one side and a chair at the corner. At 2cm it is thick enough to feel underfoot on a hard floor. Hemp spins into a strong thread, which is what stands up to being walked on.

The rug is hemp throughout, handwoven on traditional handlooms. Hemp grows without pesticides, and it grows densely enough to leave little room for weeds, so the crop asks little of the ground it is raised on. The same braided hemp is also made as an extra large rug, a floor runner and a table runner.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

180cm across and 2cm deep.

What is it made from?

Natural hemp, spun and braided, then handwoven on traditional handlooms.

Will it shed?

Some shedding of fibre is to be expected, given the materials it is made from.

Can I vacuum it?

Take care if you do. A vacuum with a rotating brush can damage the fibres and is not recommended.

What other sizes are there?

An extra large rug, plus a floor runner and a table runner in the same braided hemp.

How do I look after it?

Blot spills immediately with a clean sponge or cloth. It can be professionally cleaned. Colours may fade in direct sunlight.
