Description

Bordo is a frameless wall mirror 170cm high by 50cm wide, and the border that appears to frame it is printed onto the glass rather than made of metal. Two surfaces intersect: a silvered area and a transparent one, with the black printing marking where they meet. The wall colour shows through the clear parts, so the outer edge is not quite where it seems to be. Close up the illusion resolves; at a distance it does not. The design is by Annemie Vanzieleghem.

At 50cm wide and 170cm high it fits a narrow wall, the strip beside a door or a hallway where a wider mirror will not go. It hangs in four directions, so the printed border can be turned to sit heavier at the top, the bottom or either side, and each rotation changes where the eye reads the edge. It is rated bathroom proof. Give it a wall whose colour you like, because that colour becomes part of the piece through the transparent areas; a strong wall colour changes it far more than it would change a conventional mirror. At 10.5kg it is light and easy to hang alone.

The mirror is partly transparent mirrored and printed glass with no frame and no backing board. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied and nothing needs assembling. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth, wiping along the printed border rather than across it so the join between mirrored and clear is not left marked. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
