Description

The Bog Oak is a ceiling light in brass and ceramic, sold in six finishes: Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Copper and Satin Brass. A round ceiling plate sits close to the ceiling, and a single lampholder drops through a flat ceramic disc glazed in Red Iron, a warm earthy colour that stays the same whichever finish you choose. The bulb hangs bare beneath the disc, so the light falls openly into the room. It is 10cm tall and 28cm across, a low, neat profile. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 40W per bulb, and bulbs are sold separately, so you can pick the one you like.

At 10cm tall, the Bog Oak suits rooms where headroom matters: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom with a low ceiling or a cottage living room. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. One works well as the main light in a small room or a passage, and a few in a line along a corridor make a tidy run of matching discs. The finish sets the mood: Matt Black, which is RAL 9005, gives a crisp contrast with the ceramic; Polished Brass and Polished Copper are bright and warm; Antique Brass and Antique Silver have an aged look; and Satin Brass sits softly between them.

Every Bog Oak ceiling light is made to order for you in Ireland, its brass paired with ceramic glazed in Red Iron. It is a Class I fitting and is wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. Because the glaze is the same in all six finishes, the practical choice is simply the metal: match it to the door handles, switches or curtain poles already in the room.
