The Bog Oak ceiling light pairs brass with ceramic: a flat, round ceramic disc in a Black Clay glaze sits just below a brass ceiling plate, with a single exposed lampholder beneath it. It is 10cm tall and 28cm across, a low, close fitting that keeps the light near the ceiling while the dark disc frames the bulb. It takes one E27 bulb, up to 40W per bulb, and bulbs are sold separately, so you choose the bulb that suits the room. Because the bulb hangs on view below the disc, it becomes part of the look, and it is worth picking one you are happy to see.

Because it is only 10cm tall, this ceramic ceiling light suits rooms where headroom matters: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom with a low ceiling or a small study. The metalwork comes in six finishes, Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Copper and Satin Brass, so you can match it to the door handles, switches or other metalwork in the room, while the Black Clay glaze stays the same whichever finish you choose. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

Each light is made to order for you in Ireland, from brass and ceramic, with the Black Clay glaze on the disc. The Matt Black finish is painted in Matt Black RAL 9005, which makes it easy to match to other black fittings. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. It is a Class I fitting that is wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician, so it is worth arranging one when you order. Once it is up, it needs only its bulb.
