Description

Blocchetto is a solid cube of natural Spanish alabaster, 150mm on every face, lit from inside so the whole block glows rather than throwing light out of an opening. There is no shade, no stem and no visible metalwork; what sits on the table is a piece of stone with a light in it. The faces are left flat and the edges square, so the geometry stays deliberately plain and the interest comes entirely from what the stone does with the light.

An integrated LED draws 12W and sits within the block. Because alabaster is translucent rather than transparent, the light does not pass straight through: it scatters inside the stone and comes out as an even glow that is brightest where the block is thinnest. At 150mm there is more depth of stone for the light to travel through than in the smaller cube, so the glow is softer and the veining reads deeper rather than brighter.

The lamp is cut from a single piece of natural Spanish alabaster with brass hardware concealed in the base, so the veining and translucency are unique to the block and no two are alike. This is the larger of the two cubes and it holds its own on a console, a hearth or the end of a kitchen run where the 120mm version would disappear. Rated IP20 for interior use. The cable leaves from the underside, so the lamp can be turned to keep the lead out of sight on an open shelf. Both sizes share that detail.
