Description

The Beacon Type A fire telephone outstation is a wall-mounted emergency communication point housed in an IP66-rated red enclosure measuring 340mm high, 205mm wide and 150mm deep. The unit provides duplex audio between the outstation and a central fire control panel, with a high-volume ringer to alert users to incoming calls and an LED to indicate call status. The large handset is designed for use with gloves or in high-stress situations.

Designed for installation in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, care homes and multi-storey residential buildings where BS5839-9:2021 compliance is required, the outstation allows emergency services or fire wardens to communicate with a central fire control room during an evacuation. The IP66 housing protects the internal electronics from dust ingress and high-pressure water jets, making the unit suitable for outdoor mounting, underground car parks, stairwells and other exposed or harsh environments.

The red powder-coated steel housing carries high-visibility graphics including the wheelchair accessibility symbol and hearing loop icon, indicating compliance with accessibility requirements. The lockable front panel prevents tampering while allowing authorised access for maintenance. The 2.8kg weight and robust construction give the unit resistance to impact and vandalism in public-access areas.

BS5839-9:2021 sets out the requirements for emergency voice communication systems in buildings, and this Type A outstation meets all specifications for handset audio quality, ringer volume, call indication and environmental protection. The unit connects to compatible fire alarm control panels via a two-wire or four-wire circuit depending on system configuration.

Frequently Asked

What does Type A mean in fire telephone systems?

Can this be installed outdoors?

Yes. The IP66 rating protects the internal electronics from dust ingress and high-pressure water jets, making the unit suitable for outdoor mounting, exposed stairwells, underground car parks and other harsh environments.

What wiring is required?

The outstation connects to a compatible fire alarm control panel via a two-wire or four-wire circuit depending on the specific system configuration. Refer to the control panel manufacturer's wiring guide and the Beacon installation manual (see Downloads tab) for the correct termination.

Is the front panel lockable?

Yes. The lockable front panel prevents tampering while allowing authorised access for maintenance and testing. The lock mechanism is designed to resist vandalism in public-access areas.
