Description

The Beacon Type A fire telephone outstation is a wall-mounted emergency communication point designed for use in fire alarm systems to BS5839-9:2021. It provides duplex audio communication between the outstation and a master control unit, allowing firefighters or building personnel to communicate during an emergency. The unit is housed in a brushed stainless steel enclosure measuring 340mm high by 190mm wide by 140mm deep, with red graphics identifying it as an emergency telephone and accessibility symbols for wheelchair users and hearing-impaired individuals.

Designed for installation in commercial buildings, public spaces, hotels, hospitals and large residential blocks where fire regulations require two-way voice communication between outstations and a central control point, the Beacon Type A outstation mounts directly to internal walls at approximately 1.2m-1.4m from floor level to comply with accessibility requirements. The large handset is tethered to the unit and sits on the left side when not in use, while a push-button activates the call. An LED indicator on the front panel shows call status, confirming when the line is active and when communication has been established.

The stainless steel housing resists impact and surface damage in high-traffic areas, and the brushed finish reduces visible fingerprints and smudging compared to polished stainless. The high-volume ringer ensures the outstation can be heard in noisy environments or where ambient sound levels are elevated during an alarm condition. The duplex audio allows simultaneous two-way conversation without needing to press-to-talk, which speeds communication and reduces confusion during emergency use. At 2.2kg net weight the unit is substantial enough to withstand daily handling without movement on the wall once correctly fixed.
