Description

A wide drum shade in faux silk hangs beneath a polished chrome frame, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing off the base so the lamps sit out of direct view. The shade is a grey and white laminate, reading grey in the room, and the light that comes down through the acrylic is softened rather than sharp. Five lamps give it plenty of output for its size, and at 60cm across it is a generous piece of ceiling furniture rather than a quiet one.

We would hang this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the width earns its place and the diffused base is kinder to anyone sitting beneath it. It also works well in a wide hall or a tall stairwell, since the drop adjusts across a wide span. It takes standard screw cap lamps, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, which is worth doing in a dining room where you want the level to fall away after the plates are cleared.

The frame is metal in a polished chrome finish, the shade is fabric over a laminate lining, and the diffuser is acrylic, which keeps the weight down for something this broad. Dust the fabric with a soft brush and lift marks from the chrome and the acrylic with a dry cloth, leaving the power off and the lamps cool before you start. It carries a one year warranty. The Baymont range runs much wider than this one pendant: flush and semi-flush fixtures in antique brass, satin nickel and satin black, plus linear pendants for longer tables, all taking the same screw cap lamps.
