Description

Three E27 lamps sit together beneath one wide shade here, so the light spreads evenly rather than picking out separate points. The shade is faux silk in grey with a white laminate lining, and the suspension and ceiling plate are polished chrome. At 45cm across it reads as generous without taking over a room, and the drop adjusts from a short hang to just over three metres, so it can sit low above a table or high in a stairwell.

We reach for this one where a single central fitting has to do all the work: a dining table, a wide hallway, a landing, a bedroom with height to fill. Grouping the lamps behind one shade gives a soft, well-filled light instead of the tight pool a small single pendant throws. Each lamp takes up to 20W, which is ample in an everyday LED GLS A60, and with suitable lamps and a dimmer on the circuit the whole fitting will settle down for the evening.

The metalwork is bright polished chrome, and the shade is a laminated faux silk, grey on the outside with the paler lining softening what falls below. For care, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and keep the chrome to a dry cloth rather than sprays or creams. It carries a one year warranty, and is intended for dry rooms indoors. The wider Baymont range goes well beyond this pendant: flush and semi-flush ceiling fittings, and linear pendants for longer tables, offered in polished chrome to match as well as antique brass, satin nickel, white and satin black, many of them supplied bare so you can pair your own shades.
