Description

The Batakha in the extra large size is a tapered drum in dark ochre velvet, lined in natural linen. It is the deepest of the four as well as the widest, 26cm tall and 46cm across the wider end, so the taper is more pronounced and the shade reads as a solid block of colour rather than a band. The washed cotton pile is uneven across a single face, deeper in some places and rubbed lighter in others.

At 46cm across and 26cm deep this is a shade that changes a room rather than a table. It suits a substantial floor lamp base or a ceiling pendant where it hangs alone, and the depth means the lampholder is out of sight from any normal angle. A shade this size also holds a great deal of the light inside it, so what leaves the open ends is concentrated up and down rather than spread around, which is worth allowing for if it is the only lamp in a corner. It fits a table lamp, a floor lamp or a ceiling pendant.

The velvet and linen are stitched by hand over an iron frame, so the pile lies differently on each one. The Batakha range runs from small through medium and large to this extra large in the same dark ochre. No bulb, base or fitting is included.
