Description

Eight arms reach out from a central stem, each finishing in a small E14 lampholder, and the whole thing measures 59cm across. The champagne gold finish is soft and warm rather than brassy, and because the holders are left open the lamps themselves do much of the visual work. It arrives with a chain of 1.5m, so it can sit up close to the ceiling as a semi flush fitting or hang lower over a table.

This is the sort of piece we reach for in a dining room, above a round table where the spread of arms echoes the shape below, or in a hallway or on a landing where a wide, shallow fitting reads better than a long pendant. Eight candle lamps put out a good deal of light for a room of that size, and the fitting will dim if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with it. We would choose LED candle lamps in a clear or lightly frosted glass here, since the bulbs are on show and their shape counts as much as their output.

The metalwork carries the champagne gold across the stem, the arms and each holder, giving a consistent tone from any angle. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, wired to a standard household circuit, and it needs an earth connection. Keep it looking well by running a clean, dry duster along the arms every few weeks, working outwards from the centre, and leave the fitting switched off and cool before you go near the lampholders. Avoid sprays and creams, which dull a plated finish faster than dust ever will. It carries a one year warranty.
