Description

Six slender arms sweep up and out from a central column, each finishing in an open lampholder so the candle lamps stay on show. Measuring 44cm across, it reads as a small chandelier that sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging deep into the room. The polished nickel has a bright, cool shine that catches daylight and lamplight alike, and the frame is left bare, with nothing to soften the outline.

We reach for this where a room wants light with some shape to it but a long drop would be wrong: a cottage bedroom, a landing, a compact dining room, a hall with a turn in the stairs. The lamps are spread around the ring, so light falls evenly rather than pooling in one spot, which makes it a sensible main light for a room of moderate size. Fit dimmable lamps and it will dim; we would choose warm white LED candles for a gentler evening setting.

There are no shades supplied, so the arms and holders carry the look on their own, though slim clip-on shades can be added later if you want the light diffused. A chain comes with the fitting, so the drop can be set to suit the ceiling height. To keep the plating bright, dust with a soft dry cloth; if fingerprints show, use a barely damp cloth and dry straight away, once the power is off and the lamps have gone cold. Household sprays and metal polishes will dull polished nickel, so leave them in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. Left bare, it suits rooms with a bit of pattern or texture elsewhere, where a fabric shade would only add bulk. Lamps are not included.
