Six slender arms sweep out from a central column, each finishing in an open E14 holder, so the candle lamps you fit are on show as part of the design. Measuring 44cm across, it sits wide and low rather than tall, and the satin nickel plating gives a quiet grey sheen that suits rooms where bright chrome would feel too hard. It comes without shades, which leaves the shape of the frame and the light of the lamps themselves to do the work.

This is one we reach for in a hall, on a landing or over a dining table in a room of ordinary ceiling height, where a long pendant would hang awkwardly low. Held up close, it pushes light sideways as well as down, so a room lit by it feels evenly bright rather than spotlit. The 1.5m chain supplied means it can also be dropped further in a stairwell or a room with height to spare. Clear candle lamps throw a little sparkle across the arms, opal ones calm things down, and it will dim if the lamps you choose are dimmable.

The finish runs consistently across the ceiling plate, the arms and the holders, so nothing catches the eye out of place when you look up. Keep a soft dry cloth for the plating and go over the arms occasionally with the power off and the lamps cold, keeping polishes, sprays and anything gritty away from the surface. It carries a one year warranty. We like it as an honest frame that borrows its character from whatever lamps go into it, so a plain candle keeps it understated while a twisted or ribbed glass makes it far more decorative. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it take?

Six E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. An LED candle in the C35 shape is the sensible choice, and they are bought separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How much room does it need?

It is 440mm in diameter with a body height of 340mm, so allow a clear circle of a little over half a metre on the ceiling.

Can it hang lower than semi flush?

Yes. With the chain fitted the drop can be extended, giving anything from 450mm up to 1900mm overall.

How should the satin nickel be cleaned?

Dust it with a soft dry cloth. If marks need lifting, use a barely damp cloth and dry at once; avoid metal polish, which can dull the satin surface.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and should stay in dry rooms, away from steam and splashing.
