Six arms reach out from a central matt black body, each ending in a bare E14 lampholder, so whatever lamp you choose becomes part of the look. It spans 44cm across, a spread wide enough to hold its own on a plain ceiling without swamping a small room. Candle lamps are the right shape here, and we would fit clear LED candles where you want a little sparkle from the filament, or opal ones for a gentler, more even glow. A chain comes with it.

This is the fitting we reach for when a hanging pendant would sit too low for comfort: a landing, an inner hallway, a bedroom where headroom is tight, or over a dining table in a room with a modest ceiling. Because the lampholders sit apart from one another rather than in a cluster, the light falls widely instead of pooling in one bright patch. Use dimmable lamps and the level can be taken right down for the evening; a dimmer switch is a separate purchase. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathroom splashes and unheated porches.

The black is a flat, low-sheen finish with no gloss to bounce reflections back at you, which is what keeps an open frame like this looking quiet rather than busy. Matt surfaces do show dust, so run a dry cloth or a soft brush along the arms every so often, with the power off and the lamps cold, and avoid sprays and creams that leave a shine behind. It carries a one year warranty. With no shades to fill in, the silhouette stays graphic and airy, which suits pale plaster and dark walls equally well, and it sits happily alongside other black metalwork already in the room. What lamps does it take?

Six E14 lampholders, each taking up to 20W. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape are the recommended choice, and none are supplied with the fitting.

How far down does it hang?

The body itself is 340mm tall and 440mm across. With the chain supplied, the overall drop can be set between 450mm and 1900mm.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps in all six holders and pair it with a suitable dimmer switch, which is not included.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means dry interior rooms only, so a bathroom zone or a covered outdoor area would not be appropriate.

How do I keep the matt black looking good?

A dry microfibre cloth on the arms and body is all it needs. Skip polishes and solvent cleaners, as they can dull or mark a matt finish.

How heavy is it?
