Description

A broad, shallow shade sits at the heart of this one: 60cm across, gold foil on the outside and white within, so the light picks up a little warmth on its way down. Polished chrome arms hold five E14 candle lampholders, and the fitting hangs on chain, which gives you room to set the drop where you want it. The mix of chrome and gold foil reads softer than either finish would manage on its own.

A pendant this wide wants something beneath it, and it is one we reach for over a long dining table or in a hall with a generous ceiling. The drop extends to 1.8m, so it can hang low over the food or be drawn up tight for a landing. In a bedroom it works over the foot of the bed, where the wide shade keeps the light off the pillows. Fit dimmable candle lamps and you can take the level down to supper light, though the dimmer itself is bought separately. It is meant for dry rooms indoors, on an earthed circuit.

The shade is a laminate, gold leaf on the face and white on the inner side, and the metalwork is polished chrome throughout. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth and leave the sprays alone: the foil face will not thank you for damp or solvent, and the chrome only wants an occasional buff to look bright again. It carries a one year warranty. We keep it in polished chrome, and it sits happily alongside chrome switch plates and mirror frames rather than fighting them. Lamps are not included, so choose candle bulbs in a warm white if you want the foil to glow rather than glare.
