Description

Three lamp holders share the top of a slim antique brass column, so the light spreads across a corner rather than pooling in one spot. It stands 1.6m and measures 30cm across, which keeps it slender enough to tuck beside an armchair. A foot switch sits on the flex, so there is no reaching down behind the frame in the dark. The holders take E14 candle lamps, and LED candles are what we would fit here.

This is a lamp for a reading corner, a sofa end or the darker side of a bedroom, and it suits anyone who would rather choose their own shades than take whatever comes in the box. Small shades in linen or card give a soft, layered glow; narrower ones read tighter and more formal. Put it on a dimmer with dimmable lamps and it will carry an evening from working light down to something much quieter. We reach for it where a table lamp has no surface to stand on.

The antique brass finish is warm and slightly darkened, the sort that sits happily with older furniture and with deep paint colours. It is double insulated, and made for dry rooms indoors, so it is best kept away from bathrooms and porches. Dusting is all it asks: a dry duster over the column and the holders, with the power off and the lamps cool, and no polishes or sprays, since those will lift the aged tone out of the finish. It carries a one year warranty. Shades and lamps are supplied separately, and that is rather the point of it, because the same frame reads quite differently once the shades change.
