Description
The Baltimore is a 560mm pedestal lantern with a cast metal frame finished in weathered bronze, amber-tinted blown glass panels, and a decorative leaf finial on top. The E27 bulb sits inside the glass enclosure (bulb sold separately), with the amber glass diffusing light outward while the bronze scrollwork and shell detailing cast decorative shadows across the surrounding ground.
Designed for mounting on gate piers, driveway posts, garden walls and patio plinths, the Baltimore carries an IP44 rating for protection against rain and splashing water when installed upright. The 225mm square base plate fixes to flat masonry or timber posts using four through-bolts (fixings not included). At 560mm height the lantern sits comfortably on standard 600-800mm gate piers without overwhelming the post or appearing undersized.
The weathered bronze finish is hand-applied over the cast aluminium frame, creating tonal variation across the scrollwork, canopy and finial. Copper undertones show through the darker patina, giving depth to the surface. The amber glass is mouth-blown rather than moulded, so each panel shows slight variation in thickness and tint. The combination of cast metal detailing and hand-finished glass gives the Baltimore a period character that suits Georgian, Victorian and Arts & Crafts-style architecture.
The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W, including warm-white LED bulbs between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K that replicate filament light through the amber glass. The IP44 rating covers the glass-to-frame seal and the base plate gasket, but installation should ensure the cable entry point is sealed with appropriate outdoor-rated glands and conduit.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. The Baltimore is suitable for year-round outdoor use on gate piers, walls and posts where it is mounted upright and the cable entry point is properly sealed. It is not submersible and should not be installed where it will be submerged or face direct high-pressure water jets.
What bulb should I use?
The E27 socket accepts any Edison screw bulb up to 60W. For period character, a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K works well with the amber glass. Standard LED bulbs at 2700K-3000K also pair comfortably. Avoid daylight-white bulbs (4000K+) as they clash with the warm amber tint.
How is it mounted?
The 225mm square base plate has four fixing holes for through-bolting to a flat masonry or timber surface such as a gate pier, garden wall coping or purpose-built plinth. Fixings are not included. The cable entry point should be sealed with outdoor-rated cable glands and conduit to maintain weather protection.
Can the weathered bronze finish be cleaned?
The hand-applied patina develops character over time as the copper undertones react to outdoor exposure. To remove surface dirt, wipe with a dry soft cloth. For stubborn marks, a damp cloth with plain water is acceptable, but avoid metal polishes or abrasive cleaners as these will strip the patina back to bare metal.
