Description

The Baltimore is a 680mm outdoor pedestal lantern with a weathered bronze finish, amber-tinted blown glass panels and a single E27 bulb fitting inside. The metal frame carries period detail including a leaf finial at the top, scrollwork brackets connecting the lantern to the base, and a fluted pedestal column below the bulb chamber. The weathered bronze patina is hand-applied over the cast aluminium body, giving each lantern slight tonal variation in the finish.

Designed for gate posts, driveway piers and large entrance pillars, the Baltimore sits on a square mounting plate (300mm x 300mm) that fixes directly to masonry or pier caps. The IP44 rating protects the internal wiring and bulb holder from rain and splashing water, making it suitable for exposed locations around the perimeter of a property. The lantern takes any standard E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) — most users pair it with a warm-white LED filament bulb to echo the amber glass tone.

The amber glass softens the light output and reduces glare, while the open-topped cage design allows the bulb itself to be visible through the glass, making the lantern more decorative when unlit. The 680mm height positions the light source roughly 550mm above the mounting surface, which works well on gate posts between 900-1200mm tall or brick piers at driveway entrances. The weathered bronze finish resists fading and corrosion in coastal and wet climates better than painted metal finishes.

Frequently Asked

What does IP44 mean and where can this be used?

IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and splashing water from any direction. This makes it suitable for gate posts, driveway piers, garden paths and entrance pillars exposed to rain, but not for direct ground mounting where it would sit in standing water.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes any E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately). A 6-8W LED filament bulb in warm white (2700K) pairs well with the amber glass and gives a traditional appearance when lit. Clear glass LED filament bulbs also work if you want the bulb shape to be more visible.

How is the lantern mounted?

The base has a 300mm x 300mm square mounting plate with pre-drilled fixing holes. It bolts directly to the top of a masonry pier, brick gate post or pier cap. Cable entry is through the base of the pedestal column — the wiring runs up inside the column to the bulb holder.

Does the weathered bronze fade over time?

The hand-applied patina is sealed during manufacture and resists fading better than painted finishes. Some natural tonal shift may occur over years of UV exposure, which is typical of weathered bronze finishes and generally considered part of the material's character in outdoor lighting.
