Description
This is Balazar, a woven rattan aeroplane made to hang as a mobile in a child's room. The whole craft is shaped in the weave: a long body that tapers towards the tail, two flat wings, an upright tail fin, a propeller at the nose and small round hoops beneath that stand in for wheels. The body is open at the front, so light passes through the weave and the piece looks airy rather than solid. It measures 47cm long, 35cm wide and 19cm tall, a good size for a nursery ceiling: big enough to notice from the doorway, yet light at 0.456KG and never bulky in a small room.
It belongs in a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom, hung from a ceiling hook where it can be seen from the bed or the play mat. A little aviator who loves anything with wings will spot it at once, and parents who prefer natural materials to bright plastic will appreciate how quietly it sits in the room. The natural rattan pairs easily with pale wood furniture, painted panelling and soft textiles, so it suits a calm, neutral scheme as well as a busier room full of toys and books. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a new baby or a baby shower, and it suits a bedroom just as well once the nursery days are over.
It is made from rattan, iron and seagrass. Rattan is a natural palm cane, so the weave and the shade vary slightly from one piece to the next. A twisted cord gathers into a single knotted loop at the top, and the aeroplane hangs level beneath it with the propeller leading. For styling, hang it off centre over a reading corner or beside a window, where the open weave catches the light, and repeat the natural texture with a woven basket or a jute rug nearby.

How big is the aeroplane?
It measures 47cm long, 35cm wide and 19cm tall, a size that reads well on a nursery ceiling without crowding the room.
How heavy is it?

How does it hang?
A twisted cord gathers into a single knotted loop at the top, and the aeroplane hangs level beneath it, propeller first.
Which rooms does it suit?
It suits a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom, and the natural rattan sits comfortably beside pale wood furniture and soft textiles.
