Description
Bacinella is a shallow bowl of natural Spanish alabaster hung open side up, so it works as an uplighter rather than throwing light down onto a table. The bowl is 550mm across and the fitting drops 733mm overall. Three chains carry it from a drum canopy, spread by a horizontal cross bar part way down, and a small alabaster cylinder finishes the assembly directly beneath the bowl where a finial would normally sit.
Turning the bowl upward changes what the fitting does to a room. The light goes to the ceiling first and comes back down as a broad wash, so there is no bright aperture in the eyeline and no hard pool underneath. The stone itself glows at the same time, because the source sits inside the bowl rather than above it, which gives a lit rim at eye level without any glare from the source.
The chains, canopy and cross bar are brushed brass, the structure beneath is solid copper, and the bowl is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining is unique to the block and no two are alike. It suits a dining room or a sitting room with a ceiling worth washing light across, and it is the quietest way in this range to light a room without a visible source. Rated IP20 for interior use. The cross bar sits well above the bowl rather than at its rim, which keeps the chains clear of the stone and stops them casting lines across the lit surface.

Frequently Asked
Does it light downward onto a table?
No. The bowl faces upward, so the light goes to the ceiling first and returns as a broad wash. There is no bright aperture in the eyeline and no hard pool of light beneath it.
How is it suspended?
On three chains from a drum canopy, spread by a horizontal cross bar part way down. A small alabaster cylinder sits directly beneath the bowl in place of a finial.
Will it light a room on its own?
It gives a soft, even wash rather than task light. In a dining room or sitting room it works well as the main fitting, but it is not a reading light.
Does every bowl look the same?
No. Each is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining and translucency are unique to the block it came from.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which covers dry interior locations only, so it should not be installed in a bathroom zone or anywhere it may meet moisture.
