Description

This B22 to G9 lamp socket converter allows a G9 halogen capsule bulb to be fitted into a standard UK B22 bayonet socket. The converter body houses a brass bayonet cap at the base and a G9 bi-pin receptacle at the top, rated to a maximum 60W load.

Designed for situations where a G9 bulb is needed in a fitting originally designed for bayonet cap bulbs, the converter is commonly used in table lamps, wall lights and pendant fittings where the original lampholder cannot be replaced. The 50mm length adds minimal projection beyond the bulb itself, and the 30mm diameter fits within most lampshade rings and shade carriers designed for standard bayonet bulbs.

The converter body combines a white thermoplastic lower section with a nickel-plated brass bayonet cap and upper receptacle. The bi-pin G9 socket accepts standard G9 halogen capsules up to 60W, though most users pair the converter with lower-wattage LED G9 bulbs between 3-7W to reduce heat build-up within enclosed fittings. The converter weighs 30g and does not require tools to install — it simply pushes and twists into a bayonet socket like a standard bulb.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the converter accept?

The converter accepts standard G9 bi-pin halogen capsule bulbs or G9 LED capsule bulbs, up to a maximum 60W rating. G9 bulbs are sold separately.

Can it be used with LED G9 bulbs?

Yes. LED G9 bulbs typically draw 3-7W and produce significantly less heat than 60W halogen capsules, making them a safer choice for enclosed lamp fittings and reducing the risk of overheating the converter body.

Does it add much length to the bulb?

The converter adds 50mm of length between the bayonet socket and the base of the G9 bulb. This may affect how the bulb sits within shallow lampshades or compact fittings — check clearance before purchasing if the fitting has limited internal height.

Is it safe to use in enclosed fittings?

The converter is rated to 60W, but heat build-up in enclosed fittings can reduce the safe operating wattage. Using a low-wattage LED G9 bulb rather than a full 60W halogen capsule is recommended for enclosed table lamps and pendant shades to prevent overheating.
