Description

The AV:Link Toslink to Toslink fibre optic cable transmits digital audio signals over a 5-metre optical path between devices equipped with Toslink (optical S/PDIF) ports. Both connectors carry gold-plated metal tips that protect the fibre cores during insertion and removal, and the 2.2mm cable diameter balances flexibility with protection for the internal fibre strands.

Designed for home cinema, gaming and music systems where audio devices sit 3-5 metres apart, the cable connects soundbars to TVs, gaming consoles to AV receivers, Blu-ray players to amplifiers, and PC soundcards to powered monitors. The fibre optic construction is immune to electrical interference, so the cable can be run alongside mains cables or through cable conduits without signal degradation.

The 5-metre length suits most living room configurations where the TV and soundbar sit on opposite walls, or where a console or media player connects to an AV receiver in a cabinet across the room. The cable arrives in a sealed retail bag and includes no additional adapters or converters — it is a direct Toslink-to-Toslink connection only.

Frequently Asked

What devices use Toslink ports?

Toslink (also called optical S/PDIF) ports are found on soundbars, AV receivers, Blu-ray and DVD players, gaming consoles (PlayStation, Xbox), Apple TV, some TVs, and PC soundcards. The port is typically a square recess with a hinged dust flap that opens when the cable is inserted.

Does the cable support surround sound formats?

Toslink can carry stereo PCM, Dolby Digital (5.1), and DTS (5.1) audio streams. It cannot carry lossless formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio — those require HDMI. Check your source device's audio output settings to confirm the format being sent.

Can the cable be bent or coiled?

The fibre optic core inside the cable is fragile. Avoid sharp bends (less than 25mm radius) and do not knot or tie the cable tightly. Gentle coiling for storage is acceptable, but do not crush or step on the cable as this can break the internal fibre and block signal transmission.

Will a 5m cable degrade the audio signal?

No. Fibre optic transmission over 5 metres introduces negligible signal loss for digital audio. The optical connection is either fully operational or completely non-functional — there is no gradual quality reduction as with analogue cables.
