Description

The AV:Link RJ12 crimp modular plug is a 6P6C (six position, six contact) connector designed for terminating telephone and communication cables. Each plug uses copper conductors across all six contact positions, providing a full-contact termination when crimped onto a prepared cable end using an RJ12 crimp tool.

Designed for telecom installations, office network cabling and home telephone systems, the RJ12 plug fits cables carrying multiple pairs of twisted-wire conductors. The 6P6C configuration supports applications requiring up to three pairs of wires, such as multi-line telephone handsets, serial data connections and certain alarm and security systems that use RJ12 cabling. Crimping requires a dedicated RJ12 modular crimp tool and correct wire order before insertion.

The plug body uses a clear or translucent plastic housing that allows visual inspection of wire order before crimping, reducing the chance of mis-termination. The copper contacts are positioned inside the plug body and make contact with the cable conductors when the crimp tool compresses the plug. These plugs are sold individually or in bulk packs for installers and maintenance engineers working on larger telephone or network cabling projects.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between 6P6C and other RJ12 configurations?

6P6C means six positions (the number of slots for conductors) and six contacts (all six positions have metal contacts). Some RJ12 plugs are 6P4C or 6P2C, meaning only four or two of the six positions carry contacts. The 6P6C provides the full six-wire capability.

What tool is needed to crimp this plug?

An RJ12 modular crimp tool is required. RJ45 Ethernet crimp tools will not work correctly, as the plug dimensions and contact positions differ. Ensure the tool is rated for RJ11/RJ12 plugs before use.

Can this be used with flat telephone cable?

Yes. RJ12 6P6C plugs suit flat multi-conductor telephone cable as well as round jacketed cable, provided the cable contains six conductors and the outer diameter fits within the plug body. Strip and align the wires before insertion.

Is this compatible with RJ11 sockets?

RJ12 and RJ11 plugs are physically similar and will insert into the same socket. However, RJ11 is typically 6P2C or 6P4C, using fewer contacts. An RJ12 6P6C plug will fit an RJ11 socket but only the centre contacts will connect, so compatibility depends on the wiring application.
