Description

This AV:Link fibre optic TOSlink lead carries digital audio between compatible equipment using standard TOSlink optical connections. It measures 3.0 metres, which gives you room to route the cable behind furniture or across a room without pulling components too close together. The lead uses fibre optic transmission, so it passes multi-channel digital audio as light rather than an electrical signal.

The connectors have nickel plated head shells and gold plated tips, paired with a flexible 5mm diameter PVC cable that bends easily around corners and cabinets. The build suits both home setups and business installations, and works well for linking a TV, games console, Blu-ray player or soundbar to an AV receiver or amplifier. Optical audio is sometimes called an optical digital or S/PDIF connection, and the socket is often labelled TOSlink or simply OPTICAL on your equipment.

Because the signal travels through fibre rather than copper, this type of lead is not affected by electrical interference from nearby power cables or mains equipment. That makes it a tidy choice where you have a lot of kit running together. The lead comes in a sealed retail bag, so it arrives clean and ready to plug in. Check that both your source and receiving device have TOSlink optical ports before you buy, as this lead does not convert to HDMI, coaxial or 3.5mm connections.

Frequently Asked

How long is this TOSlink lead?

It is 3.0 metres long, which suits most living room and desk setups where components sit a short distance apart.

What is TOSlink used for?

TOSlink carries digital audio over fibre optic cable between devices such as TVs, soundbars, games consoles and AV receivers. It is also known as optical or S/PDIF audio.

Does this cable support multi-channel audio?

Yes, it delivers multi-channel optical digital audio for home and business applications, subject to the formats your connected equipment supports.

Will fibre optic reduce interference?

Yes. Because the signal travels as light through fibre rather than as an electrical current, it is not affected by electrical interference from nearby cables or mains equipment.

How do I know if my devices have TOSlink ports?

Look for a small square socket labelled OPTICAL, TOSlink or S/PDIF, often with a small flap or a red light inside. Both devices need this port to use the lead.
